I'm the manager of the team DMT (103645) in Sweden. I've been playing Hattrick since season 18, making my HT-career a little over 6 years long. I'll be more than happy to share my knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for the game.

Form, how does it work?

Each player has two different kinds of formparameters:
- The current form (Which is the one you can see)
- The background form (Which you can’t see)

This is how it works, or a good estimate of how it works:

1. At each training a players form is updated, this might also be followed by an update in background form;

2. About 1/3 of all players in HT are drawn to get a new background form;

Let’s assume that a player has inadequate (medium high) = 5.5 form and solid (medium high) = 7.5 background form.

2:1. At the form update (training) he is given a new form according to this formula:
new_form = (old_form+background form) / 2

2:2. For our example this means that the new_form = (5.5+7.5) / 2 = passable (medium high)

3. If a player isn’t drawn to get new background form - he will stick to the old background form he had

4. If this is the case, it means that our example player at the next update will receive:

new_form = (6.5+7.5) / 2 = 7.0, meaning just in between passable and solid

5. Now we assume that our example player is drawn to receive a background form update (which always occur after the form update)

6. His new background form will depend on a number of factors such as:

- If a player has played match during the week (this is very important for high probability for receiving high background form, however not a guarantee)
- Your coach’s coaching ability
- Number of helpers
- Trainingintensity
- Chance

7. General training and stamina training does not affect the update of the background form but only the form update.

- If you for instance train 90% general and 10% stamina it will most likely look something like this during the form update:

new_form = (old_form+background form) / 2 + 0.9 - 0.1

The following conclusions can hence be made:

- If a player hasn’t played during the week and is unlucky to be drawn amongst the 1/3 of all players that will receive updated background form, he is running a great risk of receiving a really bad background form.
- The effect of general training is only temporary! If you train general at 90% one week the positive effect is only 0.9 “steps” of the 100% the first week, 50% the second week, 25% the third week etc.
- The effect of stamina training is also temporary. If you train stamina at 90%, the negative effect is 0.9 “steps” of the 100% the first week, 50% the second week, 25% the third week etc.
- Hence, this explains why a player may increase his form even though he hasn’t played a match this week and then start losing heavily the next week - even though he played. I guess we can say it’s a “delayed effect”.

To raise the form in your team you need to know that general training is utterly useless in the longer term. The only thing that really can be done is to let your players play every week and hope that most of your players with low form is amongst the 1/3 of all players that are drawn to receive a new background form.

General training is only something that should be used when you have a very very important game he following week and want to top your team an extra portion.

This has been flowing around the Swedish Conferences for seasons, it is originally constructed by the HT user bolla.

  1. For the example of training general at 90% and stamina at 10%, the formula given would mean a decrease in form.

    This:
    new_form = (old_form+background form) / 2 + 0.9 - 0.1

    Should be this:
    new_form = (old_form+background form) / 2 - 0.9 + 0.1

  2. Actually, I was doing it wrong by adding the 0.9 to the 2, rather than to the result of the division by two, so brackets should clarify:

    new_form = ( (old_form+background form) / 2 ) + 0.9 - 0.1

  4. by general training do you mean the training level?

    e.g.

    I have stamina training: 20
    I have training level: 100

    so 1.0-0.2 = 0.8

  5. Hi!

    Where do you find the form characteristics of a player with decimals ?
